Antoine Mattei (23 March 1917, in Scolca – 31 May 1981) was an officer of the French Foreign Legion made famous by the writings of Paul Bonnecarrère, who published For The Bloodshed in 1969 and The Cruel War in 1972, which featured his exploits. He is a legend of the 3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment (REI).He entered the Special Military School of St Cyr in 1938 and graduated with the rank of lieutenant.
