The Biak gerygone (Gerygone magnirostris hypoxantha) is a subspecies of the large-billed gerygone, but it is sometimes considered a distinct species. It is endemic to West Papua, Indonesia.Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist shrubland.It is threatened by habitat loss; when it was still considered a good species, it was listed as Endangered by the IUCN.
