Michael Avigdor Hirschfeld (27 October 1944 – 5 January 1999) was a Wellington, New Zealand multi-millionaire businessman, and was President of the New Zealand Labour Party from 1995 to 1999.He was born in Wellington; his parents had arrived from Palestine in 1940, and his father Sigi Hirschfeld started the firm of Mico Wakefield, which was sold to an Australian company in 1994. His grandparents were Austrian, and he was a ‘secular Jew’ and agnostic.
