Sit-in protests in Hong Kong involving mass civil disobedience began in September 2014. Widely known as the Umbrella Revolution, and sometimes interchangeably the Umbrella Movement, the protests began after the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPCSC) came to a decision regarding proposed reforms to the Hong Kong electoral system.
