Ahold Czech Republic, a. s. (a. s. standing for "akciová společnost" – equivalent of joint stock company) is a division of the Netherlands-based Ahold company, operating in the Czech republic. They are responsible for running the supermarket chain Albert and the hypermarket Hypernova, totalling about 300 locations. In 2005, they took over 56 outlets of the Austrian-based Julius Meinl supermarket, which left the Czech market, and subsequently remodelled them to their Albert brand.
