The American Urban Radio Networks (AURN) is the result of a merger between the National Black Network, founded by Unity Broadcasting in 1973, and the Sheridan Broadcasting Corporation, founded in 1972. After becoming the first African Americans to purchase a group of radio stations (WILD, Boston, WAMO, Pittsburgh & WUFO, Buffalo), SBC purchased a 49% interest in the Mutual Black Network.
