Arthur Frederick Saunders VC (23 April 1879 – 30 July 1947) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.Arthur trained for the Merchant Marine and joined the Royal Navy at age 15, serving for 15 years and reaching the rank of Petty Officer (2nd Class). Leaving the navy he worked for Ransomes, Sims & Jeffries.
