Auckland City was a former local authority district covering the Auckland isthmus and most of the islands of the Hauraki Gulf, in the North Island of New Zealand, which was governed by the Auckland City Council. On 1 November 2010 the council was amalgamated with other councils of the wider Auckland Region into the new Auckland Council. Auckland City was the most populous city in the country, with a population of 450,300 at 30 June 2010.
