Candomblé (Portuguese pronunciation: [kɐ̃dõˈblɛ], dance in honour of the gods) is a syncretic religion, practiced mainly in Brazil by the "povo de santo" (people of the saint), among people of African descent and sometimes of mixed race. Candomblé officially originated in Salvador, Bahia at the beginning of the 19th century, when the first temple was founded.
