The subfamily Catomerinae represents Southern Hemisphere Catophragmids. This lineage is characterized by a membraneous basis, carinate imbricating plates, and in lacking caudal appendages. Ovigerous frenae are characteristic of pedunculate barnacles, while the remaining balanomorphs have ovigerous branchiae.
