Chengalpattu, formerly known as Chingleput, is southwestern suburb of Chennai city and Taluk in Kanchipuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is the headquarters of the Chengalpattu Taluk of the district and is 55 kilometres (34 mi) southwest of the state capital, Chennai on the National Highway 45.The city is believed to have been named after a lily called 'chenkazhuneer poo' which is found aplenty in the region.
