The Chuvash Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (Chuvash: Чăваш Автономлă Совет Социаллă Республики; Russian: Чувашская Автономная Советская Социалистическая Республик) was an Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic within the Soviet Union.It occupied about 18,000 square kilometres (6,900 square miles) along the east bank of the Volga River, about 60 kilometres (37 miles) west of the river's confluence with the Kama River and some 700 kilometres (430 miles) east of Moscow.
