The Connecticut gubernatorial election of 1990 included a three way race for a seat left open when Gov. Bill O'Neill declined to run for re-election. A Connecticut Party nominee Lowell Weicker and won the election, becoming the first third party candidate to win a gubernatorial election since the 1970s in Maine. It was not a huge upset because Weicker was actually the most experienced candidate in the election.
