A dioxirane is a molecule containing a three-membered ring composed of one carbon and two oxygens. Somewhat unstable, they are used in organic synthesis as oxidizing reagents. A dioxirane in common use is dimethyldioxirane (DMDO), the dioxirane derived from acetone.
