General Sir Edward Nicolls KCB (1779 – 5 February 1865) was an Anglo-Irish officer of the Royal Marines. Known as "Fighting Nicolls", he had a distinguished military career, being involved in reputedly at least 107 actions across the world during his 40 years of service, and was wounded in combat numerous times.Nicolls was born in Coleraine, Ireland, in a family with a military tradition, and raised there until entering school in Greenwich.
