Ernest Alonzo Nevers (June 11, 1902 – May 3, 1976) was an American professional athlete who played American football as a fullback for the Duluth Eskimos and the Chicago Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL), as well as baseball as a pitcher for the St. Louis Browns. Nevers was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.To this day, Nevers is the only player in the history of the NFL to have scored 40 points in a single game.
