George Mifflin Dallas (July 10, 1792 – December 31, 1864) was a U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania (1831–1833) and the 11th Vice President of the United States (1845–1849), elected with President James K. Polk. Dallas also served as the Mayor of Philadelphia from 1828–1829. The City of Dallas, Texas, is named after him because Dallas created the first local trading post which was the first known settlement in what is today the Dallas, Texas, metro area.
