Vella has been serving as Malta's Deputy Prime Minister and as the Minister of Foreign Affairs under Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, since 2013.Vella has held the same post of Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1996 to 1998, under Prime Minister Alfred Sant.
