Gilmer County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 28,292. The county seat is Ellijay. The county was created on December 3, 1832 and was named for George Rockingham Gilmer.Gilmer County is home of the Apple Festival, a yearly event held in mid-October.
