John J. Mearsheimer (/ˈmɜrʃhaɪmər/; born December 14, 1947) is an American professor of political science at the University of Chicago. He is an international relations theorist. Known for his 2001 book on offensive neorealism, The Tragedy of Great Power Politics, Mearsheimer is also known for co-authoring, with Stephen Walt, the New York Times Best Seller The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy (2007).
