She was born on May 9, 1953, in Washington, D.C., the youngest child of Nuala Pell and Claiborne Pell, a six-term United States Senator from Rhode Island.She died on April 13, 2006, in Newport, Rhode Island, at the age of 52.Her name "Wampage" was derived from her ancestor, the Chief of the Siwanois Indians in Westchester County.
