Macio Snipes was the only black man to vote in his Georgia district when he was killed in 1946. His killing was reported in the Atlanta Constitution on July 26, 1946. Snipes voted in the 1946 Georgia primary election in Taylor County. A sign was posted on a Black church that read "The First Nigger to Vote Will Never Vote Again". After voting, Snipes was dragged from his home by 4 white men and shot.
