Matthew Hawes (born February 13, 1986 in Pointe-Claire, Quebec) is a male swimmer from Canada, who mostly competes in the backstroke events. He claimed a bronze medal (4x100m medley relay) at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Hawes also competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.At the 2009 World Aquatic Trials in Montreal Hawes set a new national record in the 200 metre backstroke (1:57.34) earning him a spot on the World Championship team.
