The Ministry of Public Safety and Security (Hangul: 국민안전처; hanja: 國民安全處) is a South Korean governmental cabinet with responsibility for public safety and security in South Korea. It was created on November 19, 2014 with the closure of the National Emergency Management Agency and the transference of the Korea Coast Guard from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. Korean lawmakers voted to reform the Coast Guard following the sinking of the MV Sewol in May 2014.
