The Northeast Conference (NEC) is a collegiate athletic conference whose schools are members of the NCAA. Teams in the NEC compete in Division I for all sports except football, which competes in the Division I Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA). Participating schools are located in the Northeastern United States.The conference was named the ECAC Metro Conference when it was established in 1981.
