Philip Coolidge (August 5, 1908 - May 23, 1967) was an American film and stage actor best known for his numerous appearances in Alfred Hitchcock's films. Born August 5, 1908, in Concord, Massachusetts, he made his first film, Boomerang, in 1947. In later films, he had roles as a self-protective small-town mayor in Inherit the Wind (1960), as Dr. Cross in North by Northwest (1959), and as Wilbur Peterson in It Happened to Jane (1959).
