The Sanhedrin (Hebrew: סַנְהֶדְרִין sanhedrîn, Greeks: Συνέδριον, synedrion, "sitting together," hence "assembly" or "council") was an assembly of twenty-three to seventy-one men appointed in every city in the Land of Israel.
