Tempeh (/ˈtɛmpeɪ/; Javanese: témpé, IPA: [tempe]) is a traditional soy product originally from Indonesia. It is made by a natural culturing and controlled fermentation process that binds soybeans into a cake form, similar to a very firm vegetarian burger patty.
