According to the , it has a population of {{safesubst:#property:P1082}}. In the 2013 election, it had 9,932 registered voters. It is 93 kilometers (58 mi) from Cebu City, and is bounded by the municipalities of Dalaguete to the north, Boljoon to the south, Badian and Alegria to the west; with Cebu Strait to the east.It is named after Alcoy in Spain.
