Amherst (/ˈæmhərst/) is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town had a total population of 122,366. This represents an increase of 5.0% from the 2000 census.The largest and most populous suburb of Buffalo, New York, the town of Amherst encompasses most of the village of Williamsville and the hamlets of Eggertsville, Getzville, Snyder, Swormville, and East Amherst.
