Assam University (Bengali: আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) is a teaching-cum-affiliating university. The history of Assam University is the history of people's struggle for higher education. The 'Shahid Minar' situated near the front gate of the university commemorates the historical Bengali language movement (বাংলা ভাষা আন্দোলন) of the people of Barak Valley.
