Axel is a town in the southwest Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Terneuzen, Zeeland, about 31 km southeast of Vlissingen.In 2001, the town of Axel had 7421 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 1.9 km², and contained 3408 residences.The statistical area "Axel", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 8190.
