The Brunei Revolt (Malay: Pemberontakan Brunei) broke out on 8 December 1962. The rebels of the North Kalimantan National Army (TNKU) began co-ordinated attacks on the oil town of Seria (targeting the Royal Dutch Shell oil installations) and on police stations and government facilities around the protectorate. The revolt began to break down within its first hours of operation, having failed to achieve key objectives such as the capture of Brunei town and the Sultan.
