Butiama is a town in northern Tanzania and the birthplace of Julius Nyerere, the first president of Tanzania. Butiama is one of the wards of the Musoma Rural District, and lies within the Mara Region; it is also the local residential area of the Wazanaki tribe which is believed to be the smallest tribe in the region.
