Cougaar (acronym of Cognitive Agent Architecture) is a Java-based architecture for building large-scale distributed applications based on agents. It is a product of two consecutive programs of several years of research DARPA (UltraLOG) in agents systems scale covering eight years of effort. The first program conclusively demonstrated the feasibility of using agent-based technology to perform advanced rapid, large-scale distributed logistics planning and replanning.
