Settled by English, French, Germans, Hungarians, Icelanders, Poles and Ukrainians in the late 19th century and early 20th century, makes this area very culturally diverse. Predating European settlement were the First Nation peoples; the Cree and Saulteaux. The city of Yorkton is the largest centre in the region which is located on the Yellowhead highway.
