Hopkins County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the population was 46,920. Its county seat is Madisonville. The county was formed in 1806 and named for General Samuel Hopkins, an officer in both the American Revolutionary War and War of 1812, and later a Kentucky legislator and U.S.
