James Francis Ray (December 1, 1944 – May 26, 2005) was an American right-handed professional baseball pitcher in the Major Leagues from 1965–1966 and 1968–1974 for the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers.The 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m), 185 lb (84 kg) Ray was known as a hard thrower with a stellar fastball and earned the nickname "Ray Gun" during the 1969 season when he struck out 115 batters in 115 innings.
