The Merry EP was announced in the Fall of 2009 via fan newsletter, and the readers were asked to submit ideas for songs to be recorded. The official tracklist was released in October when it was available for pre-order. Of the EP, Gregory said:It's a bit out of character for me to pursue a holiday EP as I'm not a particularly religious person but these are songs that I fall in love with again this time every year...
