Nepalese Mithila (also eastern Terai) is a federal region of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal in south-eastern Nepal and an abode of Maithali people. The name also refers to the ancient kingdom of Videha, which extended from the foot of the Sivalik Hills in the northern Nepal to Nepal's border with India in the south. In January 2012, the State Reorganization Commission of Nepal proposed to divide Nepal into 11 states, one of which would be Mithila.
