(His name is spelled Nicolas in French, Nikolaus in German. His noble title, in German, would be Nikolaus Graf von Luckner, where Graf signifies his title of Count)Luckner grew up in Cham, in eastern Bavaria and received his early education from the Jesuits in Passau.
