Suraiya Jamaal Sheikh (15 June 1929 – 31 January 2004) (Urdu: ثریا جمال شیخ‎, Hindi: सुरैया जमाल शेख़) was a film playback singer and actress in Bollywood in the 1940s and 1950s. She was one of the most popular actresses and singers of the Indian sub-continent of her generation. She was the only child of her parents. She was not formally trained in music; yet she went on to become a most successful singing film actress.
