The Lion Guard is an upcoming American animated television series based on the 1994 film The Lion King and will broadcast first as an hour long television film, titled The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar in November 2015 and later as a series in January 2016 on Disney Junior and Disney Channel. It is the second television series to be based on The Lion King, the first being Timon & Pumbaa which ran from 1995 to 1999.
