Tripoli District (Arabic: شعبية طرابلس‎, Shab'iyaẗ Ṭarābulus) is one of the 22 first level subdivisions (shabiya) of Libya. Its capital and largest city is Tripoli, the national capital. Tripoli District is in the Tripolitania region of northwestern Libya.HistoryFrom 2001 to 2007 the Tripoli District shabiya was smaller than formerly, including only the city of Tripoli and its immediate surroundings.
