Utah wine refers to wine made from grapes grown in the U.S. state of Utah. The first wine grapes were planted in Utah in the 1860s, soon after the initial settlement of the area by the Mormons. Viticulture was soon abandoned and not revived until the late 1980s. Most of the vineyards in Utah are located in mountain valleys, some as high as 6,000 feet (1,829 m) above sea level. Utah has a cold and dry climate, often requiring irrigation.
