The station is owned by Cessna Communications, Inc.The station's initial construction permit was granted on December 18, 1987, with the callsign WAYC-FM. The new station broadcast for the first time on February 1, 1988 with a Top 40 format. On September 1, 1994, the station flipped to a country music format as WWCW-FM.
