The book focuses on Houle's efforts to save the then-endangered peregrine falcons from extinction.Primarily as a result of poisoning from DDT, a widely used pesticide, peregrine falcons had been reduced to 324 pairs in the United States by 1975. After graduating college, Houle was employed by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Her first assignment was to Chimney Rock, now a U.S.
