The City of Yalta (Ukrainian and Russian: Я́лта; Crimean Tatar: Yalta) is a resort city on the South coast of the Crimean Peninsula surrounded by the Black Sea. It serves as the administrative center of Yalta Municipality, one of the regions within Crimea. Its population is 78,115 (2013 est.)The city is located on the ancient site of an ancient Greek colony, said to have been founded by the Greek conquerors who were looking for a safe shore (γιαλός – yalos in Greek) on which to land.
