6th Lancer, part of the Armoured Corps of the Indian Army, was raised on 1st February 1984 at Nabha, Punjab as the 6th Armoured Regiment at first.The first CO of the regiment was Lt Col R. S. Deol. The class composition is all classes mixed. Initially, the regiment was equipped with Vijayanta tanks and was immediately immersed into maintaining law and order during Operation Blue Star.
