Afropomus is the type genus of the subfamily Afropominae.Based on the anatomy, mainly that of the reproductive system, Afropomus appears to be a primitive genus within the Ampullariidae. This basal position of Afropomus within Ampullariidae has also been confirmed by molecular phylogeny.
